IBS

IBS is a mix of belly discomfort or pain and trouble with bowel habits: either going more or less often than normal (diarrhea or constipation) or having a different kind of stool (thin, hard, or soft and liquid). It is also known as spastic colon, irritable colon, mucous colitis, and spastic colitis. It is different from inflammatory bowel disease and isn’t related to other bowel conditions. IBS is a group of intestinal symptoms that typically occur together. The symptoms vary in severity and duration from person to person. However, they last at least three months for at least three days per month.

Causes

  1. Stressful or difficult early life events
  2. Certain mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and somatic symptom disorder
  3. Bacterial infections in your digestive tract
  4. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, an increase in the number or a change in the type of bacteria in your small intestine
  5. Food intolerances or sensitivities, in which certain foods cause digestive symptoms

Symptoms

  1. Abdominal pain, cramping or bloating that is typically relieved or partially relieved by passing a bowel movement
  2. Excess gas
  3. Diarrhea or constipation — sometimes alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation
  4. Mucus in the stool
  5. Cramping

Medicines are prescribed by the doctor after a thorough examination of the patient. Treatments must be done under the supervision or advice of a certified Ayurvedic Doctor and not based on self-judgment.
